Is BIGGER better? That is the question for today.
- Are bigger cars better?
- Are bigger houses better?
- Is everything,………well, BETTER if it is BIGGER?
I don’t know the answer to this question, but I do know that when it comes to moving boxes, bigger is not better. As a matter of fact, really big boxes are the WORST boxes to use for moving.
The reason why is that if you go to your garage and just find any old big, huge box and fill it with all of your earthly belongings, you will find one of the following scenarios will happen:
1. Your movers will show up and sigh.
They will see the VERY large box filled with books and will kindly ask you to you to remove all the contents in the box and repack them in a smaller box. They make this request to protect your valuables and protect their back.
Boxes that are too big can easily become too heavy to carry, even for mighty strong movers.
2. Not my mothers china!
The second scenario that can easily happen when using boxes that are too big is you have moving damages inside of your box. Boxes that are too big, have too many belongings rubbing up against each other inside of the box. This creates a higher potential for moving damages.
This is why in the moving profession, there are standard sizes of boxes that professional movers use.
This is also why the most important size box for moving is the 1.5 cubic, otherwise known as the All Purpose Moving Box. The 1.5 cubic is the SMALLEST of the moving boxes, but it is the most useful and most recommended by professional movers to protect your valuables.
The 1.5 cubic box is deep, stacks very well, yet can be filled with just about anything you want (cans, books, photo albums etc) without fear of it breaking or becoming too heavy.
So when it comes to moving boxes, we can answer this question. Bigger is not better.
Happy moving.
