“I admit, I don’t like to spend ANY MORE money than I have to on ANYTHING, particularly when buying items that are NOT “fun” to buy like a new water heater, a new toilet, dirt for plants, diapers for babies, vacuum bags, or moving boxes. Lets face it, all of these items are not the “exciting” things to spend money on like buying a new IPOD, new software,
(yes I am a geek) a new kitchen gadget, a bright new car, or clothes that make you feel great.”![]()
Moving Boxes are not the most "fun" thing to buy.
However, I must add that even though I don’t like to spend money buying things that are not “fun” to buy, if I learn that there is a REAL benefit in spending money on them, then I will buy them.
For example…….
- Buy good soil-Your plants will grow higher, stronger and healthier.
- Buy an expensive Kitchen Aid- You can make some amazing baked goods faster and easier than you could by hand.
- Buy a quality water heater-It will heat your home with comfort and will decrease your energy bill.
Yes, I am one of those people that when people ask me “what is my budget,” I tell them that my budget is only what I need to pay in order to get the job done right, or to buy the right product for the job. Not a dime more. I do want to buy the product that will get the job done right.
That leads me to moving. When moving, one of the biggest areas that people try to save money is when they buy moving boxes. Since old boxes are everywhere, many people feel like this is an easy area to scrimp on and they find free boxes at a store, get free boxes from a friend, or use empty old boxes around the house to pack all their precious belongings inside of.
What is wrong with that?
Nothing…………………… except that your valuables will NOT be protected and you will have a higher risk of moving damages if you don’t use high quality moving boxes. Remember, a “box is not a box”, just like an old water heater is not the same as a new one.
Many people do not realize how THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS of moving damages occur because they wanted to save $80 from buying new, quality moving boxes and moving supplies.
Okay….Lets Take a Journey With Your Moving Boxes
Lets pretend you are a moving box. You are filled up with heavy items. Then all of a sudden there are SIX moving boxes that are placed on top of you. One, two, three, four, five, six, yickes……
All of a sudden you find that the movers have 6 moving boxes on top of your box wheeling you around on their dolly.
Then you are placed in the moving truck, where you find yourself being stacked with ten moving boxes on top of you. WOW! Do you feel that weight on top of you?
The good news is if you purchased high quality moving boxes and moving supplies, your box most likely will not compress at all, nor will it break any of your precious items inside.
On the other hand, if you used any old box you can find, you can almost count on having a certain percentage of moving damages.
In Plain Terms, Why High Quality Moving Boxes Protect Your Valuables?
Professional quality moving boxes are designed not to compress when they are stacked (as long as they are filled to the top.) See footer notes in how to properly pack moving boxes.
You see my point. Buying quality moving boxes are no different.
Happy moving!
Note: Don’t forget to pack your quality moving boxes. The best way to fill moving boxes to the top is to pack your belongings using the guidelines in our packing tips section, and to fill any gaps or holes in your boxes with crumpled newspaper. Completely filled moving boxes are much stronger and better for stacking then partially filled moving boxes.
