Bedroom Packing Tips

Packing Tips - How to Pack a Bedroom

Packing a bedroom when moving is one of the easiest rooms to pack. This is because most items in your bedroom, or guest bedroom are not fragile.

  • The most important thing to remember before packing a bedroom, is make sure that you want to move all of the clothes in your closet. You can save time and money on your move by donating all of the clothes you don’t want before moving to a charity.

The three main moving boxes that you use to pack your bedroom are the following:

1. Pillow Moving Box

2. Hanging Clothes Moving Box, otherwise known as the Wardrobe box.

3. Some items will also use the All Purpose Moving box. To learn how to pack a specific item in your bedroom, click one of the tabs below.

Always Pack Folded Clothes in New Moving Boxes

Typically the average family has several boxes that are laying around their house. Use these boxes to pack items other then clothes. As a general rule, purchasing new moving boxes is really a good idea when packing folded clothes, because often used moving boxes such as those from a grocery store have chemicals or little bugs inside of them from traveling around the world. The same is true for boxes that have been in your garage for a long time. You don’t want these chemicals or bugs to get all over your clothes and then have to spend a lot on dry cleaning.

Packing Folded Clothes Tips

1. To make sure that your clothes don’t smell like a corrugated box, take a bed sheet and line the moving box with the sheet. Then place your folded clothes inside of the sheet. Once all of your clothes are stacked, wrap the sheet around your clothes. Then you only need to wash the sheet if that has any smell of a box. Often it does not.

2. Folded clothes can also be used as “padding” to protect other items that are fragile and lightweight.

Packing Shoes

ADDITIONAL Packing Shoes Tips

1. The “Hanging Wardrobe Box” is an ideal way to transport your shoes. Before you hang your clothes, line the bottom of the hanging clothes box with your shoes that are positioned inside of their respective shoe boxes. Then hang your clothes on top.

Packing Lamps

Photo of Packing LampsMoving Box Delivery recommends that you are very careful when packing reading lamps and lamp shades. Properly packing lamps in your home is important, as lamps and lamp shades are expensive if broken or damaged.

Most people leave their lamps fully assembled and try to move them. This is the biggest cause for creating damage to lamps when moving. Moving Box Delivery does not recommend doing this.

  • Always remove bulbs from your lamps. Take off the delicate harps, roll up the cord and take the lamp shade off before you start packing.
Additional Tips for Packing Lamp Shades

1. Before packing lamp shades, wash your hands with soap and water, as lamp shades can easily pick up little pieces of dirt when packing other items.

2. Wrap the harp and the knob at the top of our lamp with packing paper. Tape it closed. Often you can even tape it to the bottom of the moving box that has the lamp shade in it so you don’t loose it.

3. Place the lamp shade inside of a moving box that fits it. Always wrap the shade with packing paper. If you have another shad that is larger in size, you can gently place this shade on top of the other. Make sure that packing paper is separating the two shades.

4. Never place anything else in the lamp shade box. Lamp shades are very fragile from any type of weight.

5. Place FRAGILE on the outside of your moving box and write ”lamp shades.”

Packing Dressers and Nightstands

Photo of Packing NightstandsMoving Box Delivery recommends that when packing dressers and when packing night stands, it is important that you empty the contents of what is inside of the dresser drawers. The reason for this is two fold:

1. Dressers and night stands filled with items inside of the drawers can become much too heavy for movers to effectively transport.

2. The second reason, is if there are any breakable items inside the drawers, movers do not want to damage your goods. Therefore, most professional movers will insist that everything is removed from your dressers before the dresser or night stand is moved.

Sometimes the movers will even remove the drawers themselves, depending on how heavy the piece of furniture is.

Ask Your Mover About Shrink Wrap

Most professional moving companies supply shrink wrap free of charge. Ask your mover if this is included. Once the dresser is empty, the movers will typically shrink wrap your dresser and then place in he moving truck. This helps prevent scraping and damages from occurring.

Packing Pillows

Photo of Packing PillowsMoving Box Delivery recommends that you pack your pillows with their pillow cases on the pillows inside of the Pillow Moving Box.

1. you are moving both your pillow cases and your pillows with no extra space.

2. It provides sanitary protection for your pillows. After all, it is easy to take the pillow cases off if you need to, then if you had pillows in the box without cases. When moving typically there is a lot of dust flying around and you don’t want this dust to land your pillow without a case.

All of Moving Box Delivery’s moving box kits include one or more Pillow Boxes. These moving boxes are tall, deep and large to hold several pillows and a comforter.

Never use Old Boxes or Grocery Store Boxes to Store or Move Pillows

Every family has a certain number of boxes laying around their home that can be used for a move. However, do not use these “used boxes,” and/or boxes that you see at a grocery store for moving pillows. Many of these boxes have pesticides inside of them and can also have really tiny, sometimes microscopic insects or bacteria. You don’t want this on your pillows where you lay your head at night.

Packing Comforters

Photo of Packing a ComforterMoving Box Delivery recommends that you place a bag over your comforter if you have one before you move. This can be a formal comforter bag that your comforter was sold in, or a large garbage bag. Comforters can get expensive to dry clean, so the best thing you want to do is make sure that your comforter is not exposed to the dust that commonly flies around on moving day.

Environmentally Friendly Way to Pack a Comforter Without Plastic Bags

If you do not have a bag to put around your comforter, or want to avoid using plastic to help the environment, then there is an easy solution. Before you place your comforter in the PIllow box, take a sheet and line the inside of your moving box. Place pillows on top of your comforter, and layer until your moving box is filled. This is a simple solution to protect your comforter, because it is less costly to wash a sheet in your washer, then to have a comforter dry cleaned. The sheet protects the comforter and pillows from dust. How to pack pillows

Packing Sheets

Photo of Packing SheetsMoving Box Delivery recommends that pack sheets and linens together with lightweight pillows. Your more inexpensive sheets make great liners in the box before you place your comforter and pillows inside. You can easily wash sheets, but it is more difficult to wash a comforter if it gets dust on it while moving.

Moving Box Delivery recommends that you pack your sheets and linens inside of the All Purpose Moving Box. Then you don’t have to worry about your moving boxes becoming too heavy to lift. One sheet is lightweight, but several folded up together can quickly become heavy.

Packing Hats

Photo of Packing HatsMoving Box Delivery recommends that you are careful when packing hats, as hats can easily loose their form if weight is placed on top of them. Depending on the types of hats you have, will affect how you pack hats.

Hat Packing Tips

1. If you have a lot of hats, separate all of your hats that are similar in separate piles. Baseball hats in one pile, sun hats in another etc.

2. Place any of your delicate sun hats into a small box, and then stack these boxes into a larger moving box.

3. If you don’t have smaller hat boxes, typically you can stack multiple hats on top of each other if they are the same type. This helps provide protection and strengths for all your hats.

4. Never place any heavy items or other items inside of your hat boxes. You don’t want any weight on the boxes. Crumple up un printed newspaper to give extra support and padding.

5. Write FRAGILE on your hat box. The reason is, the box will not be filled to the top, so you don’t want movers to place a very heavy box on top of the hat moving box.
